Ideas and projects for a resource-efficient and innovative future

The company's long-term environmental vision looks ahead to the fiscal year ending March 2051 and is designed to proactively address environmental risks and regulations. It consists of three pillars which are considered particularly important in view of the global situation and the nature of the business in which companies use limited resources to manufacture and sell products. The Koch Group has revised our materiality for the financial year ending March 2021 to reflect social trends and changes in the business environment. The group also updated the company's medium-term environmental goals based on this revision, and advanced a series of initiatives in these areas.

REASON FOR PRIORITY

As the impact of climate change becomes more pronounced and the associated social and economic losses and damages become more severe, the 1.5℃ target for limiting the global average temperature rise was effectively and formally agreed upon as a new global goal at the 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. To achieve this goal, greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced to virtually zero by 2050. In order to realize long-term environmental goals, companies need to establish environmental strategies, build frameworks for environmental management based on this strategy, and steadily implement initiatives within these frameworks.Simultaneously, there is a need to shift away from the traditional linear economy characterized by a cycle of mass production, consumption, and waste generation toward a circular economy, in which resources are recycled and reused. In addition, with regard to chemical substances contained in products, there has been a steady expansion in the scope of substances that are subject to regulation, as well as in the geographical areas in which such regulations apply. Companies need to take steps to reduce environmental impact throughout the product lifecycle, and to respond appropriately and reliably to the aforementioned regulations in their business activities.

Neutrality as a goal – climate action at ZEISS

Circular Economy And Sparing Use Of Resources

ZEISS strives for a circular use of resources with a view to reducing the impact on the environment. To achieve this, more renewables and recycled materials will be deployed and loops closed. Water consumption and the amount of waste are set to be further reduced.

Value For Society

ZEISS would like to generate added value for a more sustainable society throughith its products and solutions. What's more, ZEISS is committed to the common good, education and research through sponsorships. This includes providing as many people as possible with access to high-quality healthcare.
